My Journey with Muscle Activation Techniques

Early Passion for Movement

I’ve been active my entire life, always drawn to sports and movement. In high school, I discovered a real appreciation for resistance training—not just for its performance benefits, but for the structure and discipline it gave me. What I didn’t realize then was that I was training my body to depend on movement and creating a lasting passion for human performance.

That passion led me to pursue a degree in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine, where I learned how to train athletes to build strength, power, size and durability to improve sports performance. But after graduation, my first job at a wellness center as a Personal Trainer—working mostly with clients aged 45 to 60—gave me a deeper understanding of how the body changes over time, and how easily pain and dysfunction can develop when movement patterns break down.

From Injury to Understanding

My own injuries taught me that lesson firsthand. At 17, I tore nearly all the lateral ligaments in my ankle—a setback that led to years of instability and new injuries to my groin, shoulder, and eventually my back.

The injuries I sustained throughout my youth came to a head one day while changing a tire on my car. A single overexertion “threw out my back,” dropping me to my knees. I couldn’t stand up straight for a week, struggled to put on socks and shoes on for months, and lived with fluctuating back pain for nearly three years. Despite my background in exercise and years of intense training, I was unable to protect my body or help myself recover from injury. I tried countless therapies and treatments, but everything I tried offered only temporary relief.

Discovering Muscle Activation Techniques

Then, a friend recommended Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT). Skeptical but hopeful, I decided to give it a try. After my first session, I felt something change. After the second, I noticed measurable improvement. And after the third, I felt like my body had been rebuilt from the inside out—solid, stable, and pain-free for the first time in years.

That experience was truly life changing. MAT didn’t just take away my pain—it completely reshaped how I understood the body, strength, performance and recovery. I realized that while exercise builds performance, it doesn’t always restore balance or correct the underlying weaknesses that lead to pain. MAT does both.

My Mission Today

The transformation I experienced inspired me to become a certified MAT practitioner so I could help others find the same relief and restoration. After more than fifteen years as a personal trainer and practicing MAT, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this work can be.

Having been both the client on the table and the practitioner next to it, I bring empathy, precision, and a deep commitment to helping people move and feel their best. My mission is simple: to help others restore the strength, stability, and resilience their bodies were designed to have.
